How to use Google Photos with Nixplay

Nixplay Plus and Lite users can connect Google Photos albums to their Nixplay account to enjoy more of their memories every day.

How this feature works will change on 30th June 2026. Read on to learn how to keep your Google Photos albums connected, or how to get started.

Why is this happening?

Google is retiring the current Google Photos integration and replacing it with a more privacy-focused, curated experience. We have updated our integration in line with these changes.

What are the changes for existing users?

Great news - you won't lose any content in your existing connected Google Photos albums, and re-connecting to ensure your albums continue to sync is quick and easy.

How to reconnect Google Photos to your Nixplay albums (created prior to 30th June 2026)

Existing Google Photos connected albums using the legacy integration will stop syncing after Google's transition period. You won't lose any content, but to continue receiving updates from your Google Photos albums, you’ll need to reconnect using the new integration.

  1. In your Nixplay app, locate your Google Photos albums marked as requiring reconnection (look out for the orange alert).
  2. Click on the album and select ‘reconnect’.
  3. Sign in to your Google account when prompted and authorize access for Nixplay.
  4. Select the correct Google Photos album that you wish this Nixplay album to sync with - select one album only. You will be able to reconnect other albums later.

To reconnect further albums, simply repeat the steps above. You only need to authorize with Google Photos once, so step 3 is only necessary on your first connection.

How to connect a new album to Google Photos

  1. In your Nixplay mobile app, create a new album, and choose Connected as your album type.
  2. Select Connect Google Photos as your album source
  3. Sign in to your Google account when prompted and authorize access for Nixplay
  4. Select the Google Photos album you want to connect - select one album only, you will be able to connect others later.
  5. Choose the frames you wish to view the album on.
  6. That’s it! The sync will now start.

To connect further albums, simply repeat the steps above. You only need to authorize with Google Photos once, so you’ll only need to carry out step 3 on your first connection.

FAQs

Only some of my photos synced

There are two likely reasons: each Nixplay album can only hold up to 2,500 photos, meaning that only the first 2,500 eligible photos in your Google Photos album will sync. Additionally, Google selects only content it deems suitable for viewing on your frame, filtering out screenshots, receipts, blurry images, and other low-quality content.

My album appears locked

This may be because your Nixplay account does not allow for connected albums. Nixplay Plus users can connect up to 100 Google Photos albums, Nixplay Lite users can connect 1 album and Nixplay Basic users do not have access to this feature.
